Meet the AHMTEC Secretariat
The AHMTEC 2025 Secretariat comprises distinguished leaders and innovators from Africa’s healthcare manufacturing sector. This eminent team brings deep industry expertise and strategic insight to guide the event’s vision, ensuring it addresses critical challenges and showcases opportunities that will shape the future of healthcare manufacturing across the continent.

Skhumbuzo Ngozwana is the CEO of Kiara Health, a South African based and Africa-focused medical device company. He is Chairman of the board of Biovac, a vaccine manufacturer based out of South Africa, and board member of the Global Action for Fungal Infections (GAFFI). He is also a member of the AMMTEC Secretariat – the African Medicines Manufacturing Trade & Exhibition Conference.
An expert in the African Pharmaceutical industry, he has consulted to the World Health Organization (WHO), the United States Pharmacopeia Convention (USP) and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). He also co-authored the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Plan for Africa.

Dr Mariatou Tala Jallow has held various high-level positions over her career including Senior Manager at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. She is also a member of the 2022 Expert Review Committee for the Generic & Biosimilar Medicines Programme and is the Founder, Managing Director and lead consultant at TalaConsult in The Gambia – a global health consultancy company established in 2020.
Tala was previously the Chief Pharmacist of Ministry of Health – The Gambia and has held several international consultancy positions with organizations such as The World Bank, World Health Organization (WHO) and others. She holds a PhD in Pharmacy and Masters’ Degrees in Pharmacy and Health Administration from the University of Oslo, Norway.

Dr. Sylvia Vito is a seasoned business executive with over 17 years of leadership experience across the African healthcare sector. As the Africa Head of EVA Pharma International, she drives commercial performance, healthcare investments, and community initiatives. Her background includes roles at Hoffman-La Roche, GSK, and AstraZeneca, focusing on communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as vaccines. Dr. Vito holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy from the University of Nairobi and has pursued advanced studies at institutions like the University of Oxford’s Said Business School and Strathmore Business School. She is also a member of the 2023 East Africa Cohort of WomenLift Health’s Leadership Journey.

Pharmacist Frank Muonemeh is the Executive Secretary and CEO of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (PMGMAN), an advocacy group for pharmaceutical and life science manufacturing companies in Nigeria. He advocates for medicine security in Africa, representing all pharmaceutical manufacturing entities in the country. His contributions significantly influence policy discussions regarding access to medicine and market access, impacting both Nigeria and the broader African context.

Dr Iain Barton is an expert in innovating, incubating and scaling best practice in Global Health, Iain currently leads Health4Development, a strategic advisory firm operating across the full healthcare value chain.
Prior, he was CEO of the Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) and was Executive Vice President of the Healthcare Strategy Executive at Imperial Logistics, Africa’s largest pharma supply organization. He also served as Group CEO for RTT Logistics.
Iain is a medical doctor with 10 years of clinical practice and over 25 years in healthcare supply chain management and healthcare systems advisory. Acknowledged by his peers as a global health pioneer, he specializes in healthcare systems solution design, implementation and market shaping start-ups. Innovations developed under his leadership include Unjani Clinics, Warehouse-in-a-Box, Clinic-in-a-Box and SSiH – a mega-distributor model enhancing medicine access across African markets.

Hitesh Upreti is a seasoned strategic leader with over three decades of experience in the pharmaceutical industry across Africa and India. His career includes leadership roles at prominent organizations such as Cadila, Ranbaxy, Novartis, Aspen, IPCA, and Zenufa in Tanzania.
As CEO at Zenufa, he transformed the company into a proactive market leader, earning the Presidential Award for Best Pharmaceutical Manufacturer for four consecutive years. He serves as a Director of the Federation of East African Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers (FEPAM) and is active in other industry associations, focusing on improving manufacturing practices and governance.
Outside of work, he enjoys competitive cycling and marathon running, activities that keep him energized and grounded.

Dr Lucia Adae is a Consultant in Health Economic Policy and a Senior Policy analyst. Lucia has worked at various multinational companies including AstraZeneca, Hoffman La Roche and Johnson and Johnson in a variety of roles including Policy & Government Affairs Manager, Key Accounts Manager, Product manager, and Medical Sales Representative. Lucia has also instrumental in removing the VAT from locally manufactured menstrual pads by engaging various NGOs in strategic advocacy and creating a documentary for one of Ghana’s national TV channel (TV3).
Currently, Lucia serves as a member of the Secretariat for West Africa Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Association (WAPMA) and a member of FAPMA. She is also the Board member and secretary of the PSGH Trust Fund and Chairperson of the Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana (LAPAG). Over the years, Lucia has served on several committees in the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana (PSGH) and Lady Pharmacists Association of Ghana (LAPAG).
She has a master’s degree in Economic Policy Management from University of Legon and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Pharmacy (Top Up) Program in Legon. She is a student at China Europe International Business School (CEIBS).

About the Federation of African Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Associations (FAPMA)
FAPMA supports a bright and self-sustaining pharmaceutical manufacturing industry in Africa, which provides quality and affordable medicines that contribute to the reduction of disease burden and promotes economic development of the continent.
FAPMA has a mission to facilitate collaboration between regional pharmaceutical manufacturing associations to address the common challenges faced by the industry and enhance opportunities towards self-sufficiency. This will be achieved through advocacy and partnership with other stakeholders in promoting the production of quality, affordable medicines.
